Wildflowers That Are Striking – Red
I offer two species that offer red to the mix of a field or sagebrush. These are Firechalice and the Wavy-leaved Paintbrush.
Firechalice (upper photo)is found at 5000 ft. or higher as one variety in a field of color for the high desert. It stands between two and three feet with many flowers for bees and bugs to enjoy. It is not unusual to see a hummingbird enjoy the sweet nectar that they contain.
The Wavy-leaved Paintbrush (lower photo)is really a parasite to other plants. It is found in the high desert meadows that are filled with sagebrush. It secures nutrients and water from plants nearby. The red coloring is striking and calls you near. But upon a closer look, you will see a mixture of green to complement the red flowers.
