Winter Traditions

Winter is a season that offers a unique array of opportunities. The month of January is filled with the blooms of an amaryllis, the sparkle of fresh snow during a full moon, and notice that each day contains more daylight.

Today I ventured out on snowshoes to enjoy the sun, snow, and mountains. It was a glorious afternoon filled with reminders of previous summers and expectations for the upcoming hiking season. We traversed a common route to see if the beehive (photo in earlier post) had survived the winter wind and snow. Unfortunately it had not. But we noticed a variety of nests that were filled with snow and longing for the spring and new inhabitants.

As I reflect on this winter outing, I asked my partner if it was the sun, snow, or exercise that left me energized and longing for the next outing. His smile offered his answer.
