The Tranquility of the Desert
Last weekend, I took the opportunity of a three-day weekend to travel to the desert. It had been a bountiful summer monsoon season, which brings life to the hard caliche that forms the foundation of the desert. Texas sage is vibrant with purple blooms. Ocotillos branches are filled with small green leaves and a burst of orange. And, the short, round barrel cactus added more orange to the landscape with late summer blooms. The desert in late summer is calming as the warm breeze blankets the vistas filled with saguaros, mesquite trees, and prickly pear cactus. No swaying, no complaining, no remorse since the harsh summer heat had finished for another year.
