As the summer progresses more wildflowers are blooming. Here's a few photos that I captured on my weekly walk. The Utah Sweet Pea (above) can be found about shoulder height in the brush and early growth of the forest. It is a lovely pink to purple color and offers a sweet smell that attracks many insects.
Looking for a natural technique to prevent sunburn? Well the western wallflower (below) might be just the remedy. Zuni Indians would harvest this flower, grind it, turn it into a paste, and apply to their skin to avoid the sun. It is a delicate, yellow flower that pops up close to the trail and is a member of the mustard family.
